Book Review
Book Review: Truth and Grace 1
Do you have a family worship time?
Do you have a system to help your kids grow spiritually?
How do you catechize your children?
Do they know basic Bible Doctrine?
Do they Memorize Scripture?
Those are questions that I have had to ponder over the years myself as a dad. Unfortunately, I haven't had any kind of system or idea where to even start. That is until I came across Dr. Tom Ascol of Founders Ministries small book "Truth and Grace Memory Book 1."
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
1. Introduction
2. A Catechism for Boys and Girls
3. Scripture Memory
4. Bible Basics
5. Hymns
6. Track Your Progress
I love the simplicity of the format of this book. The divisions are perfect in regards of what your child is learning and memorizing. The catechism is based on the Baptist Catechism which draws from the Orthodox Catechisms of 1680. The Bible verses that are used teach foundational truths of God's Word and are what you would expect to be some of the first Bible verses to memorize. The Bible Basics section covers things as The 10 Commandments, The Lord's Prayer, the 12 Apostles, Books of the Bible, The Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed. One of my favorite parts is the Hymns section. Tom lists hymns foundational hymns, old and new, that are rich in doctrine and theology. Hymns such as Doxology, Jesus Loves Me, He Will Hold Me Fast (my current favorite) and much more.
I cannot recommend this little book to help parents, Sunday school teachers, Children's Ministry leaders and Children's Ministry as they guide kids to learn and memorize Biblical truths.
